A Room with a View moves between the interior and the exterior landscape. A photographic section of a building with a balcony emerges through layers of acrylic, collage and transparent surfaces of color. The architecture functions as an anchor point in a pictorial space where memories, moods and fragments of stories flow into each other. The strong green tones meet muted pink and dark violet fields, creating a tension between energy and silence. Newspaper clippings, overpainting and traces of previous layers remain as remnants of something that can almost be read, but never fully understood.

Like much of my work, the image explores the relationship between place, memory and belonging. The balcony points both outwards towards the world and inwards towards the space behind the window – an image of how we constantly move between what we see and what we carry with us.
