NO: Norma
Våren 1979 reiste min mann med lasteskipet M/S Norma fra Santos i Brasil til Rotterdam. Mange år senere ble reisedagboken hans utgangspunktet for dette maleriet. Fragmenter av hans egen håndskrift møter maling, tegning og collage – spor etter en reise jeg selv aldri var en del av. Gjennom lagene forsøker jeg ikke å gjenskape reisen, men å forestille meg rommene mellom det som ble skrevet ned: havet, dagene om bord og øyeblikkene som bare finnes igjen som fragmenter.

In the spring of 1979, my husband travelled aboard the cargo ship M/S Norma from Santos, Brazil, to Rotterdam. Many years later, his travel diary became the starting point for this painting. Fragments of his own handwriting meet paint, drawing, and collage – traces of a journey I was never part of. Through the layers, I am not trying to recreate the voyage, but to imagine the spaces between what was written down: the sea, the days on board, and the moments that survive only as fragments.
